Show Notes

(0:00) Intro

  • Hello my friend welcome back to the club how are you today?

  • Giveaway: Leave a review on Apple podcasts - that would be such  a gift to me if you enjoy this podcast.

(5:20) 105: Growing Strong with Cambria Joy

  • Certified personal trainer and nutrition coach - she struggled with disordered eating but was able to overcome it by submitting her body and health to the Lord.

  • She’s in the same camp as I am about not emphasizing numbers  and I asked what her secret is for helping to avoid that. She said to eat protein with every meal and with snacks.

  • I also asked her what strength training exercises give us our most bang for our buck and she mentioned moves that we would do in every day life: squat, push, pull, lift, row.

(6:30) 106: Should We Eat Pork and Shellfish

  • Informative but not popular - nobody wants to be told not to eat bacon or shrimp - including me - but here’s the conclusion: even though Jesus declared all foods clean  - and I think He meant that spiritually and not necessarily physically.

  • God gave those food rules that we see in Leviticus for a reason - a cleanliness reason.

  • We know that Pigs are monogastric animals and process their food in about four hours - unlike a ruminant which takes closer to 24 hours -  so there’s not a lot of detox time to help filter out  bad bacteria, tapeworms and other parasites and they end up getting stored in the pig’s body, especially in the fat.

  • Shrimp, for example, are bottom dwellers, scavengers, eating the garbage of the sea.

(8:44) 107: The Bile Doxology

  • Bile flow is KEY to breaking down and utilizing fats plus flushing toxins and excess hormones out of the body. Unfortunately, a lot of people have poor bile flow which hampers all of these important processes

  • Ann Louise Gittleman author of Eat Fat, Lose Weight:

    • “ There is already a 75% bile deficiency by the time allergies, arthritis, and inflammation in joints and muscles develop. By the time cancer or chronic illness is diagnosed, a whopping 90% deficit has already occurred.”

Praise God from whom all bile flows

Praise Him that it’s how toxins go

Praise Him it’s how we break down fat

Praise Him our body works just like that

(10:16) 108: Only By You and Only in This Lifetime

God didn’t design us to have cookie cutter lives. He has given every Christian a big-picture mission to glorify Him by making salvation known, but He gives each of us individual ways to fulfill that purpose. We must consider these purposes as priorities. God has given each of us a unique set of desires, aptitudes and gifts to creatively fulfill our purpose. What God has called you to do can only be done by you, and it can only be done in one lifetime. Numbered days demand focused lives.

  • The School of Health and Nutrition is in creation - under construction - being built with Kingdom bricks and we couldn’t be more thrilled. If you are interested in learning more about it you can go to the programs tab on my website at The TCN.com to get on our information list for updates.

(15:25) 109: Girl You Ate the Wrong Food

  • We talked about using our biofeedback clues of hunger, energy and cravings  to help dial in which foods work for us and which don’t. We want to keep that HEC in check.

  • There are so many clues about what’s working in your favor or not in your favor but you’ve got to be aware and make the connections so you can tweak your food choices to serve your best, most energetic, happiest mood body.

(116:30) 110: Things to Know About Your Thyroid

  • This is the one I did after I was blindsided by my blood results test that showed I had thyroid antibodies.

  • The biggest takeaway that I want you to get from this episode is to have a full thyroid panel done when you get it checked. So many tests only look at TSH and T4 but you really want the full spectrum including Free T3 which is the active, available hormone AND you want to have the antibodies test done.

(17:45) 111: Food Elimination Drama

  • This was a good one y’all - go listen when you’re in midst of any kind of food elimination.

(21:31) 112: Reasons to Use an Animal-Based Therapeutic Diet

  • When you look at the majority of therapeutic diets - they all take out plant foods - like Paleo, GAPS, KETO, FODMAPS, Specific Carbohydrate, AIP and Carnivore - it’s either the sugar, starch, fiber or the defense compounds in plant foods that are causing issues.

  • For many people, going plant based is going to make their health worse. Experimenting with an animal based diet might be exactly  the thing that you need.

(22:33) 113: Lessons from Jesus Camp

  • We had an amazing speaker at JC  - Susan Heck - who has the entire New Testament memorized and challenged us to memorize scripture - to get on our heart and cemented in our minds.

  • She said the person you are five years from now should intimidate you.

(24:00) 114: Programming Your Ideal Metabolic Rhythm

  • Ok here’s the 3 tips from this one. Ready?
    1. Establish a consistent break fast time.
    2. Aim for eating within an 8-11 hour feeding window.
    3. Start your fast 2-3 hours before you go to sleep.

(24:39) 115: Holistic Help for Allergies

  • Carly was our special guest and took us through an extensive explanation of how allergies happen and what we can do about them.

    • 127: Girl, Know Your Immune System!

  • Top tips include-  trying an GF and DF diet, incorporating supplements like Gut healing support- Mega Mucosa and Megasporebiotic from Microbiome labs. N-acetyl cysteine, Organic Olivia Zinc Plus,  Vitamin D, Vitamin C, Leefy tincture,  Proteolytic enzymes- ex: Intenzyme Forte, Nasal and throat  sprays:

    • Ion Biome- “restore” nasal spray- daily this is what I use

    • Xylitol nasal spray with grapefruit seed extract- I use this if I have sinus symptoms or congestion

    • Beekeeper’s Natural Propolis Spray

(26:13) 116: The Genesis of a Better Body

  • This podcast kicked off my 8-week GP program. I believe that everything we need to know about good health is laid out in Genesis and that our body must have these foundations to be fully healthy. It is my Biblical health foundational program.

(28:27) The next two episodes were:

  • 117: The BioElectrical Benefits of Earthing

  • 118: Solar Syncing

    • I can not stress enough the benefits of getting sunshine and grounding.

(29:23) 119: Seasonal Plant Cycling

  • In this episode we talked about the idea of plant regionality and seasonality and how it is only a modern phenomenon to have access to every kind of plant food in the world at any time of the year and how our microbiomes are really designed to thrive on regional and seasonal food.

(30:15) 120: My Carnivorish Experiment

  • Carnivore diet as a therapeutic approach

  • I’ve got a new program coming out in May called 10x Stronger  - I’m actually putting myself through it right now as I put it together and I’m gonna be telling you about it soon.

  • It’s not a Carnivore diet but it’s definitely making sure you’re optimizing amino acid intake to build strength and increase longevity.

(32:02) 121: The Meat God Said to Eat

  • I think it’s interesting when Biblically based health professionals say we shouldn’t eat meat and I’m like did you read Genesis 9 and Leviticus?

(33:10) 122: The Breath of Health and Fat Loss

  • 84% of fat lost is exhaled through our breath. “For every ten pounds of fat lost in our bodies, eight and a half pounds of it comes out through the lungs”.

  • We talked about how mouthbreathing creates major health problems like sleep apnea, ongoing sinus issues and weight gain.

  • The ideal breath is 5-6 seconds inhale through the nose and 5-6 seconds exhale through the nose.

(34:11) 123: The Genesis Prescription for Sleep

  • We talked about how we do most of our detoxing while we sleep and so if you’re not getting your 7-9 hours, you’re missing out on good detox time.

  • Not getting enough sleep affects your hunger hormones - leptin and ghrelin - and can affect your cravings and eating cycles.

  • It also increases cortisol the stress hormones which also increases sugar cravings and can make you hold onto more fat.

  • We talked about some ways to help promote better sleep

(35:25) 124: Functional Exercise in the Bible

  • We just talked about this again in the Hippocrates episode - how our ancestors would have gotten exercise naturally through their daily life and work.

  • Lots of walking - walking everywhere - we talked about how much Jesus and his mother walked in their lifetimes - and how the women carried heavy jugs of water.

(36:43) 125: 5 Problems with Counting Calories for Weight Loss

  • Calorie counting has been the primary recommendation for weight management for many years, but if it was as simple as calories in / calories out, there wouldn’t be such an obesity epidemic.

(38:27) 126: Influencing Your Family’s Health

So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. 1 Corinthians 3:7

  • We’re the throwers not the growers. God can do so much with our seeds

(41:02) 127: Girl Know Your Immune System with Carly

  • Carly went into a  great explanation of the immune system  and it’s just so amazing the way God made our bodies.

(41:25) 128: The Essential Oils Apothecary with with Dr Eric Zielinski

  • What I appreciated about Dr Z: He’s a NON-branded essential oil expert (he educates without being tied to any brand).

  • He combines science and spirituality to present the most comprehensive approach to essential oils on the market.

(42:20) 129: Q&A: Family Supplements, Electrolytes, High Protein, Skin

  • We talked a lot about our body’s need for electrolytes and salt in general and it’s not something to avoid because our body uses it for so many things. somewhere between 1.5-3.5 teaspoons per day is a good target.

    • We use the LMNT or Ultima electrolytes packets.

(42:29) 130: Food and Family Tips from a Health Coach Mom of 6

  • This was a great conversation with one of my F2F coaches about how she practically feeds her family of 8 - healthy and on a  budget and homeschools her children.

  • She only shops 2x a month, she keeps a master notebook of all of her family’s favorite meals,

    • “Eating what they’re served is a matter of respect for my time and effort. “

(44:35) 131: Why You Need a Low Pufa Diet

  • Remember - PUFAS will make you poofy -  they’ll make you fat and inflamed.

  • PUFAs are polyunsaturated fatty acids - most of which come from industrial seed oils like soybean, cottonseed, vegetable, sunflower, safflower, canola - unlike olive oil which is a monounsaturated fatty acid, unlike coconut oil which is a saturated fatty acid, unlike butter which is fatty acid blend of mostly saturated and monounsaturated.

(46:20) 132: Cook Once Dinner Fix with Cassy Joy Garcia

  • This was so exciting to have Cassy Joy on  - total girl crush on her. If you don’t have her cookbooks - Cook Once Eat All Week or Cook Once Dinner Fix - they’re both great for meal planning and just really good family meals.

(46:59) 133: Binders, Humic and Fulvic Acids with Mike McNeal

  • Any time Mike is on the podcast you know it’s going to be a hoot and a totally loaded nerd out and God praising session.

  • So we talked about humic and fulvic acids which are essentially extracts of broken down plant matter from the soil.

  • These extracts are full of nutrients, minerals, and carbons that are powerhouses for boosting immunity, aiding digestion, detoxification, and sustaining overall health.

  • This is the technology that Cellcore uses and why I absolutely love their line. I’m taking a group of people through Cellcore’s  4-month foundational protocol - it’s an awesome overall systemic gut, liver, immune boosting cleanse and reset.

  • If you’re interested you can go to this contact form on my website and click that you’re interested in the Cellcore protocol and I will let you know when we do that next.

(48:20) 134: Being the CEO of Your Health with Dr. Isaac Jones

  • I loved Dr Jones’ concept of ‘Above, Down, Inside and Out’.

  • When it comes to our health we first look to God, to His provision, to the fact that He made our bodies innately intelligent and wise - that He downloaded His love and intelligence into us and that we have to give our insides what they need - real food - in order for the outside to be healthy. You’ve heard good health starts on the inside, this concept takes it further - above, down, inside and out.

(49:02) 135: The 50/50

  • Y’all I think this was my most popular podcast of the whole year.

  • I introduced the concept of the 50/50 which means that life is not rainbows and butterflies 100% of the time.

  • Part of life is positive and part of life is negative. We are all going to experience pain, suffering, hurt, loss, sadness, failure, discomfort - it’s part of the human experience.

  • It’s how we show up in the Hard 50 that determines so much about how we show up in life.

  • I would say out of all the podcast episodes - don’t miss this one.

(50:31) 136: Supplement Discernment with Leslie Bumpas

  • We talked all about the quality of supplements and why you don’t want to go buy something at the store or on Amazon willy nilly.

  • You need to look at ingredients.

  • Leslie’s top supplement picks are a B complex, a mineral complex, a probiotic and a fish oil, cycled in.

  • I’d say  my Top 4 would be liver or organ pills, minerals, we use CT minerals from Cellcore, we also cycle in some cod liver oil and fish oil and probiotic.

(52:11) 137: Why Feasting Is Good For You

  • Usually I’m talking about the role of fasting in the feasting and fasting equation but this episode is dedicated to the feast and how it is just as important to plan for it as it is the fast.

  • When we balance out fasting times with feasting times, it challenges our body to be metabolically flexible, it reassures our body that there is plenty of food in the world and there is not chance of starving so it doesn’t need to slow down the metabolism like it might in the case of prolonged caloric restriction.

  • Planning the feast also helps stop the yo-yo dieting and cycle of deprivation and binging.

(53:07) 138: Embodying Your Truth with Jessica Hottle

  • Jessica asked us some really good questions - like are partnering more with the spirit or with our flesh?

  • She said our bodies are great storytellers and we ought to ask ourselves what kind of story does our body tell. Very  interesting to think of the way  we think about ourselves and the way we  project ourselves into the world.

(53:44) 139: Holiday Gift Guide

  • Now that we’re moving into spring you might consider getting some Earthrunner sandals which are earthing sandals so you can still get some benefits of grounding even when you’re wearing shoes.

  • And I want to highlight Beautycounter because Earth Day is not too far off and they are not only a super high quality cleaner skin care and makeup brand but very earth conscious and by 2025 100% of their packaging will be recycled, recyclable, refillable, reused or compostable.

(55:00) 140: The Vitamin D Episode with Carly

  • We took a deep nerdy dive into Vitamin D.

  • The takeaways are that you don’t want to oversupplement, the reason it may show up low on a blood test is because you are missing some of the cofactors you need to properly utlizie Vitamin D like copper, magnesium, Vitamin A. Cod liver oil would be a good place to start with supplementation. And, of course, the sun is the primary way God created us to get our D!

(56:04) 141: It All Comes Down to the Mitochondria

  • Mitochondria are the energy makers in our cells. So our cells aren’t going to work if they can’t make the energy to work.

  • Instead of supporting mitochondrial function, drugs like statins, antibiotics, acid blockers and metformin are prescribed - which further degrade mitochondrial function.

  • The best ways to boost mitochondrial health are: to be able to burn fat and not be stuck in sugar burning mode, to get the right nutrients from real food, sun might be the best way to charge up your mitochondria, exercise, sleep, cold plunging.

(57:30) 142: Eat Like the French with Tania

  • The author of The Bordeaux Kitchen cookbook which is beautiful and not only a traditional french cook book but also a nutritional education.

  • We talked about the French Paradox - why traditionally French people have always eaten meat, cheese, butter, cream, wine - all my faves  - and yet stay slim and healthy.

(58:48) 143: The GAPS Diet with River Yeo

  • GAPS stands for Gut and Psychology syndrome and Dr Natasha created it to help her son with autism.

  • She shows how the gut health influences our brain and nervous system health. I will say that this is a meat-based diet in the beginning because again, plants can often be problematic for people especially with compromised guts.

(59:22) 144: The Winter Solstice Detox

  • This is one of the quarterly seasonal detoxes that we do in The Christian Health Club based around the Ember Day Fasts which were traditional fasts done four times/year near the beginning of each season of the solar cycle.

(1:00:22) 145: The B-Minus Method to Health and Weight Loss

  • Eating is something you are going to do every day for the rest of your life and you are not going to do it perfectly every single day.

  • Do you know how much weight you could lose and health you could gain with B- work? A lot my friend. You can accomplish much more in your consistent imperfection than in your sporadic perfection.

(1:02:23) 146: Why Low Carb Works So Well

  • Defining what is considered low carb
    0-30 = very low carb
    0 - 100 =  low carb
    150 - 250 = high carb
300+ = too high (obesity range)

  • In Feast 2 Fast we stay within that low carb range but with tighter parameters closer to 50-75grams. (except on feast days).
There are a lot of benefits to doing this but today I’m going to talk about 3 big ones.

  1. It it minimizes your processed food intake

  2. It keeps insulin low

  3. It can reduce gut inflammation.

(1:03:24) 147:  Medical Field Lies

  • Y’all really enjoyed this one with former nurse Amanda Wilcox. She described her daughter’s and her best friends’ son’s vaccine injury from their immunzation shots.

  • We talked about her hormonal struggles after being on the pill most of her life. AND she told us about the Flexner Report which details how Rockefeller and Carnegie essentially killed holistic medicine in America.

(1:05:15) 148: Covid Prep Pack

  • My Omicron experience.

(1:06:15) 150: What’s a Biblical Diet?

  • This is where I introduced the idea of the Alpha and Omega concept.

  • I will always be Team Meat since God not only gave it to us but specified which kind. That’s not to say I don’t recognize that it’s good to do plant-based detoxes - I do them seasonally.

(1:07:11) 151: Healing Hormones Naturally with Dr. Beth Cook

  • We learned a lot talking to Dr Cook - bottom line is that, like most things when it comes to health, hormonal regulation is very much dependent on gut health, on adrenal health because as you age and move into perimmenopause and menopause

  • Also Dr Cook and I talked about the importance of testing. We both love the DUTCH test for looking at cortisol and estrogen metabolites. Really good stuff.

(1:08:40) 152: The Iron Episode with Michael Rutherford, FNTP

  • Bottom line is that you can’t assess your iron by just your ferritin level and when we do look at iron whether it’s a deficiency or overload there are other factors to consider.

  • You want to look at TIBC, Transferrin and % Saturation.

  • You need a healthy gut to be able to properly utilize iron and what many think of as iron deficiency is really a copper deficiency. You need copper to be able to use iron. Liver pills are a great way to get copper and some iron  - especially liver pills that include spleen.

(1:09:47) 153: Ancient Physician Wisdom

  • This was the episode about ancient crush Hippocrates who lived and practiced medicine around 350 B.C.

  • I wanted to do this episode because we don’t have a lot of direct physician information in the Bible BUT the way Hippocrates practiced mirrors the Genesis Prescription.

(1:10:44) 154: Super Fasting for Spiritual Feasting

  • That’s what we’re doing each week in F2F for Lent. We’re taking one day each week to fast a little bit longer than usual and taking that time to FEAST on the Lord.

  • One of the awesome benefits of fasting is the sharpened mental clarity you get which creates the environment for hearing him better.

(1:11:35) 155: The State of Receiving Food with Ellen Roufs, FNTP

  • We talked about the state of receiving with Ellen Roufs and how we have to be in the active posture of receiving our food - seated, with thanksgiving, reaching out to our Healer  as we receive the healing food we put in.

❗️Don’t forget to leave a review on Apple podcasts - that would be such  a gift to me if you enjoy this podcast. It’s kind of like telling 100 people about it at once because every time someone searches for a Christian health podcast- the more reviews is has, the more easily people can find it.
