🤓 Did you know that the human body is made up of more bacteria than it is human cells? And these bacteria affects your cravings, weight, mood, and more. You want bacteria in your body that work FOR you instead of against you.

💊That’s where a good-quality probiotic comes in. I invited probiotic expert, Tina Anderson, onto the podcast this week to tackle the biggest probiotic myths and give us the lowdown on this topic.

Let’s dive in!

EPISODE 10: WHY YOU NEED A PROBIOTIC WITH TINA ANDERSON

SHOW NOTES

  • (00:00-00:44) Intro

  • (01:10) For dust you are, and to dust you will return. Genesis 3:19

    • God made us from dirt, which is packed with microorganisms including bacteria! Dirt is not dead, it is alive and teeming with life.

    • The human body is made up of more bacteria than it is human cells!

    • Bacteria affects your cravings, weight, mood, and more! You want bacteria in your body that work FOR you instead of against you.

  • (04:10) Introducing our Probiotic Expert, Tina Anderson from Just Thrive Probiotic!

    • What brought Tina from the pharmaceutical industry to Just Thrive

  • (08:50) Why health starts in the gut- and you need to address the gut first before your health changes!

    • Even if your concern is weight loss, skin issues, or mood problems, we should still start with the gut.

    • If your gut is inflamed, you’re not properly absorbing nutrients.

    • Leaky gut and the movement of LPS from the gut to the bloodstream- and why that’s bad news. This causes massive inflammation and is related to so many chronic diseases like Alzheimer’s, allergies, and diabetes and behavioral disorders like autism and ADHD.

  • (12:21) Why is all of our gut health so out of balance? Where did we go wrong?

    • Our soil is depleted- it is lower in bacteria and vital vitamins and minerals.

    • Toxins in the air we’re breathing and the food we’re eating.

    • Antibiotics that we take and from eating meat treated with antibiotics.

    • Glyphosate (which is basically an antibiotic for the gut!- only kills the good gut bacteria and predisposes you to ) & pesticides in our food.

    • Sugar intake which preferentially feeds pathogenic (bad) bacteria.

    • High stress levels.

  • (18:00) What should I look for in a probiotic?

    • 90-95% of probiotics are simply outdated and only based on knowledge from this old science. Just Thrive is based on the newer understanding of the gut from the human microbiome project.

      • Old way: Lactobacillus or bifidobacterium strains. The vast majority of these probiotics don’t arrive alive in the gut- so they can’t do anything!

      • Just Thrive’s strains were specifically selected because they naturally contain an “endospore” shell around them. Because of this, they can pass through the stomach without being killed by acid. Since they arrive alive, they can get rid of the bad bacteria and restore the balance of the gut microbiome.

    • What to look for in a probiotic

      • Spore-based

      • Strains are DNA-verified by 3rd party lab- so what they say is on the label is actually in the product itself

      • Arrive alive- gastric survivability study verified by 3rd party lab

      • Brands: Just Thrive or Megaspore

  • (29:00) Who can take Just Thrive Probiotic? Does it work for everyone?

    • Everyone who is breathing could benefit from Just Thrive.

    • No contraindications to the product per Just Thrive.

    • Our ancestors would have gotten these strains on a daily basis.

    • It is free of gluten and dairy.

  • (30:20) Why can’t I just eat fermented foods like raw sauerkraut or yogurt?

    • Fermented foods are beneficial but they aren’t a substitute for probiotics.

    • If your yogurt has sugar, it’s not helping your gut flora!

    • Often they don’t meet label claims!

  • (35:35) What are PREbiotics? Do we need to take them?

    • Prebiotics are the “food” for the bacteria/probiotics to eat.

    • Just Thrive Precision Prebiotic only feeds the GOOD bacteria, while most prebiotics just feed all the bacteria- which can lead to overgrowth.

    • Like “plant food” or “fertilizer” for your gut garden.

    • If you have a compromised gut, you can start with probiotic for 3-4 weeks then add in the prebiotic. Add in slowly and give yourself grace- they’re very effective so you’ll need to go slow and steady.

  • (38:55) Does the bacteria count (CFU) in my probiotic matter?

    • There is no indication that more is better.

    • More is only better if it survives stomach acid and arrives alive in the intestines- which is rarely the case!

    • Just Thrive is only 4 billion CFU because it is 100% survivable and works.

  • (40:30) Are refrigerated probiotics better?

    • Mandatory refrigeration means that the probiotic can’t withstand room temperature of the store shelf, so how would it ever survive your body temperature of 98.6Âş? Refrigerated brands are way too weak.

    • You want to buy something shelf-stable.

  • (42:20) When should I take my probiotic?

    • Take Just Thrive at any time of day but it must be taken WITH food.

  • (43:20) Can kids take it? How much is the dose?

    • If 3 or older, they can handle a full capsule.

    • Under 3, 1/2 capsule.

    • You can open them and mix them into food or bake with them (it still works after being baked up to 450Âş).

    • As always, start slow and work up slowly to full dose.

  • (44:25) Let’s talk about Vitamin K2 and calcium!

    • Role of vitamin K2 is to move calcium away from the arteries near the heart (where we don’t want it deposited because it can lead to atherosclerosis) and to put it into the bone where we do want it.

    • In our modern diets, we really don’t get any Vitamin K2.

    • NO calcium-only supplements- because you have no idea where it is being deposited. And the more Vitamin D you take, the higher your body’s demand for K2.

  • (47:24) Anchor Questions

    • What is your “anchor” meal?

      • Ezekiel bread with avocado, organic chicken, and arugula open-faced sandwich

    • What is your “anchor” verse?

      • Chronicles 16:11 “Seek the Lord and His strength; seek his presence continually.”

    • Where can people find you?

      • THRIVE WEBSITE: thriveprobiotic.com

        • Use code CHELSEA15 for 15% off the probiotic!

        • Taking care of your gut is the #1 thing you can do for your health.

  • (50:44) Disclaimer & Outro
