165: When You Feel Icky About Yourself

✅ Social Media Ick

✅ Parenting Ick

✅ Body Ick

I’ve felt a lot of ick about myself lately. I’ve noticed it from several angles and realized that the stress of some of it has pushed me to the brink of crashing. In this week’s podcast we’re talking about having awareness around times you feel “icky” about yourself and how that can affect your health spiritually, mentally and physically. I gained five pounds and teetered on the edge of emotional breakdown until I made a decision to step back and give myself some space.

This week’s episode is a little rambly and teary but, ultimately, I hope I’m setting a good example of walking the talk when it comes to self-stewardship.

EPISODE 165: When You Feel Icky About Yourself

Show Notes

(0:00) Intro

  • Hello my friend, welcome back to the club. How are you today?

  • Today we are going to talk about feeling icky about yourself

(4:15) Social media ick:

  • Avalanche of negative thoughts

  • Undercurrent of lack of worthiness

  • Teenagers:

    • They do not have a fully developed prefrontal cortex. It’s the part of the brain in charge of decision-making, planning and self-control.

    • They DO have a well developed limbic system where risk, reward, impulse and emotion are. Let’s just say we’re all limbic over here - impulse, risk, emotion.

    • It has been a struggle, and unhinged mama moments just feels icky.

(13:00) Body ick:

  • Gained 5 pounds and felt the body ick:

    • I tried not to panic but to take on that neutral, journalistic approach that we talk about in self-coaching Christians and try to figure out what the problem is.

    • But then, all of a sudden - after 2 months of feeling like this - it finally deflated a little bit. Not totally but noticeably - it budged after two months and it finally dawned on me why.

  • Sharing the story…

(20:50) Managing stress:

  • Stress can sabotage your overall health, even if you’re doing everything “right”

  • Living the genesis prescription

(29:39) Closing thoughts ❤️

  • Becoming aware of the things that make you feel icky.

(33:08) Outro & Disclaimer

Thanks for listening! Have a healthy and blessed week!

XOXO,

Chelsea
