189: The Ultimate Body Recomposition Goal

In this week’s episode we’re talking about changing the way the body looks - both the individual body and the Body of Christ. The quickest way to reshape your body is with more protein and more muscle. The quickest way to reshape the Body of Christ is for each of its individual members to be in good health. When individual bodies feel well, the entire Body of Christ shows up more vibrantly.

Come listen to how we strengthen ourselves in spirit, mind and body so that we live into all God has planned for us to do. When we feel well, we serve well and, collectively, that makes us a greater force in the world.

EPISODE 189: The Ultimate Body Recomposition Goal

Show Notes

(0:00) Intro

  • Hello my friend, welcome back to the club, how are you today?

  • Stay high on Jesus EVERY day because He is love, He is peace, He is joy, He is Lord of our life - this life on earth and eternal life. And life is so much better when we stay elevated in His Presence. He is the ultimate  present - and we don’t put Him away and get Him back out at Easter, we are meant to enjoy the present, the gift of His Presence every day.

(2:09) Big plans for 2023:

  • The words, the theme if you will, that I feel God putting on my heart is Body Recomposition.

  • I am taking guidance from His plan and putting it into an action plan in the best way I know how.

  • As you know Carly and I are starting The School of Christian Health and Nutrition - we officially start in February but we already have a good number of students enrolled and starting on their assigned reading list and it is so exciting.

    • By the fall we will have a new set of Christian Health Practitioners who will transform bodies in their communities and their churches and so this wave is starting and this ripple effect is going to ripple out further into the world. This is the vision and the work God is calling me to.

    • If you are even  - what I call - the teensiest bit mustard seed interested and curious - I invite you to listen to the  Information Zoom call that Carly and I did talking about the curriculum, answering your questions and just chatting about being Jesus-loving health nerds, because that’s basically what we are and if you are too you’ll fit right in.

  • What is also starting in January is 10x Stronger  - speaking of Body Recomposition -  the two most effective ways to reshape your body - that’s what we’re talking about in the literal sense of body recomposition - and the two most effective ways to do that are with protein and strength training.

  • Last week we talked about lean mass versus fat mass and the key to shifting that ratio more in favor of lean mass is to build muscle mass.

  • More muscle means less fat.

  • Muscle is a storage tank for sugar, for carbs and the more muscle you have, the more carbs your body can efficiently handle, the less muscle you have, the less carbs your body will efficiently handle.

(7:27) Importance of Protein:

  • We can change the way your body looks, we can shift your body composition to favor lean mass instead of fat mass. But it is going to require a shift in your habits. You are going to have to get into the habit of prioritizing protein.

    • When you’re thinking about putting a meal together, the first thing you’re thinking of is  - what’s my protein going to be. You build your plate around that - your beef, your chicken, your fish, your eggs.

    • Ideally, you’re aiming for 30grams or more in one sitting. This gives you the amino acids that you need to stimulate muscle protein synthesis which is the building of your muscle.

    • You need protein to build muscle and a lot of other things like bone, nerves, tendons, ligaments, skin, cells, hormones and enzymes.

    • You also need them to build your mood modulating neurotransmitters - which affect how you feel, how you perceive stress, how you behave. If you want to be a nicer, more calm, more go-with-the flow kind of person, you need to eat more protein.

  • What we’re after when we eat protein are eight essential amino acids:

    • Phenylalanine, Valine, Leucine, Isoleucine, Lysine, Threonine, Tryptophan,  Methionine.

    • They are called essential because they’re essential to your body to make all of these parts of the body - that means they are an essential part of your diet - you have to eat them to get them. Which means you have to be intentional about getting them into your body.

    • When you eat protein your body takes it and breaks it down in the digestive process - this is why good digestion is important and why you need sufficient stomach acid and enzymes.

  • We need our essential amino acids and we need our essential Jesus. That is the message we are taking into the new year and practicing in 10x Stronger. We are going to put in the essentials. We are going to prioritize protein and prioritize the Lord.

(11:52) Filling up on Protein and Jesus:

  • The word protein comes from the Greek origin proteios, meaning “first place” or “primary”. Our goal is to make protein and Jesus first place on our plate and in our lives.

  • The beauty of filling up on protein and Jesus first is that it’s so satiating to the body and to the soul. It stops cravings, it stops over-consuming, it stops your brain from wanting more because you are full and satisfied.

  • Protein to Energy Ratio Podcast

    • One of the biggest drivers of cravings is nutritional deficiency. And so many people, especially women do not get enough protein.

    • When you meet these protein goals we have set out in 10x Stronger, it is almost impossible to overeat.

    • You naturally eat less because your body gets what it needs sooner, your brain gets the signal - like alright we’re good.

    • It also naturally tempers your carbohydrate intake simply because you’re full.

1 Cor 12:13-27

Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.

15 Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? 18 But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. 19 If they were all one part, where would the body be? 20 As it is, there are many parts, but one body.

21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” 22 On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23 and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, 24 while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, 25 so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. 26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. 27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.

(18:05) Upcoming in 2023:
