112: Reasons to Use an Animal-Based Therapeutic Diet
When we look at therapeutic diet options like Paleo, Keto, Carnivore, The GAPS Diet, Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD), FODMAPS, Low Oxalate Diet, Low Nightshade Diet, the Autoimmune Protocol Diet (AIP), the Low Salicylate Diet, the Candida Diet - what they all have in common is an elimination of plant foods.
Plants can be healing, but they can also be harmful. For some people, the fiber, sugar or defense compounds in plant foods can be the trigger that wrecks the gut or inflames the immune system.
Adjusting the balance of food to more animal-based and less plant-based for a period of time can be just what the body needs for healing. This flies in the face of modern plant-centric nutrition, but we can’t dismiss the fact that eliminating certain plant foods helps a lot of people.
Listen to this week’s podcast to hear more about why more animal foods and less plant foods is often the adjustment that starts people on their path to healing.

111: Food Elimination Drama
Any time you start a new dietary challenge, your brain is going to resist. Here’s what mine has been saying to me since I made changes to work on my Hashimoto’s:
This is dumb.
This food is boring.
I don’t care if I have high antibodies, I want my bread.
You’re never going to be able to stick this out.
I don’t want to do this.
Eliminating food is hard. We don’t like it. Our brains resist it. It creates a whole lotta drama. But the drama starts in the mind before it starts in the mouth.
Most of us can relate to this universal struggle when it comes to cleaning up our diets.
Listen to this week’s podcast to learn how to help yourself through the tough moments of a dietary challenge and how even the Israelites struggled with food drama! This one is heavy on Scripture and Real Life feels.

110: Things to Know About Your Thyroid
The blood test I took a few months ago showed that I have Hashimoto’s - an autoimmune thyroid condition. I was absolutely blindsided by this information. I don’t exhibit the most common hypothyroid issues like weight, fatigue or brain fog. In fact, I don’t experience any obvious health issues at all so this was very shocking to me.
Hence, my sense of urgency to tell you all about the thyroid. If I, a rather healthy, unsuspecting person, have a condition like this, how many other women are unknowingly walking around with a thyroid problem? How many women can’t lose weight or hardly get out of bed or can’t think straight or are losing hair or are constipated or have dry skin or have high cholesterol or just feel awful and can’t figure out what the problem is? It could be your thyroid, my friend! And most conventional thyroid tests don’t reveal the full picture of what’s happening.
Please tune in to this week’s episode to get this information. It could be the missing piece in your health puzzle.

109: Girl, You Ate the Wrong Food
I recently ate some keto cereal and I was bloated and gassy for the entire day.
My body was saying - girrrl, you ate the wrong food.
When I eat oatmeal for breakfast, I’m hungry two hours later.
My body is saying - girrrlll you ate the wrong food.
When I drink too much coffee in the morning, I have an energy crash a few hours later.
My body is saying - girrrl you drank too much coffee.
Our body is always giving us clues about what works and doesn’t work for us. Using your hunger, energy and cravings as goalposts can give you valuable metabolic insight.
That’s what we’re talking about in this week’s podcast. Listen in to understand how to better discern these metabolic clues!

106: Should We Eat Pork and Shellfish?
Like many of us, I’ve taken Mark 7:17-19 where Jesus declares all foods clean at face value. Jesus says it’s clean - it’s clean, right? But is that what He meant? OR did He mean we are spiritually clean - that no food can come between us and God?
Did the food God forbid His people to eat, calling it “detestable” according to some translations, suddenly become fine? Does Yahweh change?
Honestly, I haven’t wanted to dig deeper because, well, bacon. And lobster. And scallops. And, dadgummit, I finally learned to love eating raw oysters.
What I discovered is that there is no consensus on this topic. And in this week’s podcast I’m not trying to sway you one way or the other. Instead, we’re talking through some of the specifics of God’s directive and considering why He may have warned against pork and shellfish. I would love to hear your thoughts once you take a listen!

At the age of 14, Cambria Joy overcame an eating disorder by crying out to Jesus during a bread binge. She’d been severely restricting her diet, overexercising, obsessing about her appearance and feeling disgusting in her body.
What the enemy intended to destroy, God used to His glory. He focused her heart on Him instead of on her body and now she influences hundreds of thousands of women to do the same.
