Loaves and Buns

The recent bread workshop we did in The Christian Health Club inspired me to branch out with my bread making. I’ve always milled my grain, dumped all of the ingredients in the bread machine, and set-it-and-forget-it until I have a beautiful 2-pound loaf of bread ready 3 hours later. It’s so simple.

But, Kerri showed us other fun options of what we can do with the dough. Check it out! ⬇️ 🍞

Kerri showed us how she starts it the same way - milling the grain and dumping the ingredients into the machine - but sets it to the dough cycle, which mixes the dough and gives it its first rise, and takes the dough out to make different things. First and foremost, she makes two 1-lb loaves of bread with it instead of one big 2-lb loaf that comes out of the bread machine. This better resembles a store-bought loaf and my kids like it much better this way. These are my new favorite loaf pans which you can get here on Amazon.

I was also inspired to make hamburger buns. Once you have that dough to work with, the world is your oyster - LOL. I was intimidated by dough. But because the bread machine does the initial work for you, all you have to do is take it out, form it into whatever you want (loaves, rolls, buns, etc) and let it rise another 30 minutes before you bake it. It’s really not hard! I already had these silicone molds so I split the dough into 12 equal parts, put them in the molds, let them rise right there on the counter, and then baked them. Oh. My. Word. They were so good. Buns have gone from a non Heck Yeah status to OH HECK YEAH status. We made chopped brisket sandwiches with them. My crunchy game was feeling strong with our right-off-the-ranch grassfed beef on freshly milled wheat buns. 😂

Speaking of The Word…

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

John 6:35

This whole bread-making business feels so right in my bones. And I have loved geeking out over it with my sisters in The Christian Health Club. I’m sharing this Bread Workshop video we did in The CHC so you get a glimpse into our wonderful world of combining health and our love for Jesus.

This workshop is led by Kerri, one of our new Christian Health Practitioners. She also recently led us in a Scripture writing workshop and now a bunch of our members have taken on a regular Scripture journaling practice. It’s beautiful to see the way God is moving in The CHC. I am so incredibly grateful.

You can find the tools Kerri and I use - including my new favorite loaf pans and the silicone molds - on my Amazon list here. Let me know if you have any questions. If I can’t answer them I’ll pass them on to Kerri.

The bottom line is that if you have that inkling to mill and use wheat but you’re intimidated, don’t be! Once you get started you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.

XOXO,

Chelsea
