Fit, Content & Abundant

Hello my friend! The other day, I stumbled upon a phrase that resonated deeply: "fit, content, and abundant." This aptly described how I desired to feel and be. It also brought to mind various Biblical verses. Today, I want to share my revelations on how these words can impact your life in light of God's word.

Loaves and Buns

The recent bread workshop we did in The Christian Health Club inspired me to branch out with my bread making. I’ve always milled my grain, dumped all of the ingredients in the bread machine, and set-it-and-forget-it until I have a beautiful 2-pound loaf of bread ready 3 hours later. It’s so simple.

But, Kerri showed us other fun options of what we can do with the dough. Come check it out! 🍞

How God Makes Food

Despite a world full of conflicting and confusing dietary advice, the matter of what to eat is really very simple. God gave us plant foods and He gave us animal foods. The food He gave us is the food we are meant to eat. The Creator of our bodies made the perfect food for our bodies and He tells us exactly what that is. God is our Master Nutritionist and His Word is our dietary compass.

Quarterly Detoxes

At the beginning of each new season in The Christian Health Club, we practice a 3-day detox that removes all meat, fish, eggs, dairy, nuts/seeds, grains, sugar and alcohol. Essentially this leaves you with vegetables, fruit and plant fats like avocados, olives and coconut. As much as I praise animal sourced foods and protein as a critical part of the diet, I recognize that periodically cycling them out is a healthy practice for the body.

Drainage Before Detox

You’re probably familiar with the concept of Detoxification but are you familiar with the concept of Drainage? Detox is what’s going on in the body to grab and process the toxins and drainage is what takes them out of the body. If the drainage pathways aren’t open and the toxins can’t get out, then they will recirculate, become more toxic and make you more sick.

Drainage MUST come before any detoxification protocol. Read on to learn more about the drainage pathways, how to optimize their “flow,” what symptoms may indicate yours are “clogged” and the current protocol I am using with clients to get the drainage pathways open.

Which Bread to Buy

One of the first books MY nutritionist recommended to me over 10 years ago was Life Without Bread. But I don’t want life without bread! It is one of my Heck Yeahs. There are very few (if any) healthy bread products. Bread in general is nutrient-devoid but energy-dense, and leads to blood sugar spikes and dips. But if you’re like me and enjoy a buttery piece of toast from time to time, then this guide to making upgraded bread choices is for you!

Foods and Supplements I Feed My Kids

I get a lot of questions about what our family eats and what supplements we take. Our food is simple; our supplements can be complicated. LOL

We don’t take the same supplements day-in, day-out, all year long. I’m often changing things up based on seasonal and targeted health needs (allergies, gut health, hormones, flu-season, etc). Plus, I’m always personally experimenting.

The supplements I give my kids change and rotate, not quite as much as mine do, but they definitely vary. Below is what I have them doing right now. I’ll try to keep this updated and let you know when I change things in and out.

Calculating Calorie Needs

All calories are not created equal, and because of this, calories shouldn't be obsessed over. But when we use the My Fitness Pal app, it’s front and center and hard to avoid. It’s not bad to check in with your calories every once in a while… as long as you don’t become fanatical about it. Remember, it’s the way food affects your hormones that matters most.

How to Track Your Macros

Macronutrients are like Jesus: the same yesterday, today, and forever. No matter what diet is popular, a food will be classified into one of those three categories.

Is Skipping Breakfast Bad?

This is one of the most common questions I get when I recommend intermittent fasting. We’ve all heard that breakfast is THE most important meal of the day, right? It’s been drilled into our heads for years. The reasons why, however, may or may not apply to you. Let’s dig in.
