193: Metabolic Water
This week’s episode is about something that nobody really talks about in the conventional OR functional health world, is relatively new in the scientific world and is probably YEARS away from being part of the conversation in the mainstream health world. But once you know and understand the impact of the concept, you can’t ignore it as one of the biggest missing pieces of the health puzzle.
God made our bodies with a special kind of water inside the cell that acts like a powerful battery. The better you make and take care of this water - the less you’re going to get sick, the better you’re going to maintain optimal weight and the more energy you’re going to have to go about your day. People who struggle with low energy and overeating could benefit enormously by understanding and taking advantage of the battery-like power of our metabolic water.

191: The Right Way To Hydrate with Carly Stagg, FNP
Bet you didn’t know there’s a wrong way to hydrate but there is. I’m a little cringey when I hear people say they drink a gallon of water a day (made popular recently by the 75 Hard Challenge). There is a thing as TOO much water and, for most people, a gallon is too much. It can flush out the minerals you need for your body to be able to actually get water into the cell so you can be hydrated (not to mention you’ll be peeing your brains out!). The goal is hydration - not a certain amount of water.

188: Lean Mass vs Fat Mass
Lean Mass is the sum weight of your skeletal muscle, organs, skin, bones and body water. Fat Mass is the amount of fat in your body. As we age (which, sadly, starts in our 30’s) we begin to lose muscle mass. The less muscle we have, the worse our metabolism works. Muscle is one of our greatest metabolic assets because it serves as a storage tank for carbs. The less muscle we have to store glucose, the more quickly it turns to fat. Thus, we start conceding more lean mass over to fat mass which is a major metabolic nightmare!
I recently had a body composition scan to assess my lean mass versus fat mass (scale weight doesn’t give you any insight into this important ratio). In this week’s episode, I’m telling you all about it in case it’s something you might want to do too.
